5 Reasons Why I Hate Golf

A few years ago, I thought I would start up golf. The reason that I started doing this was solely based on the fact that many of my friends and co-workers were doing it in my free time. What’s not to love about it? You’re going to be enjoying nice weather, it doesn’t take a lot of work if you’re a golf cart, and the scenery is beautiful!

Again, this is what I thought about it a few years back. Today, after 10 golf lessons, I just can’t get the grasp of it. Granted, I’m not the one to quit, but golf is one of the first things where I just want to throw the towel in. Listed below are 5 reasons I hate golf and why I’m probably never going to back to it again.

#1 It takes way too long to learn: Even with a golf pro, I have found that I just can’t get the hang of it. I truly believe that golf is only designed for some people. Every time I took a swing, the instructor would say, “I’m too tense!”, or “You didn’t keep your head down!”

#2 It’s more frustrating than anything: Golf is supposed to be fun but how can it be when you get to hole #1, swing your club, and the ball either goes 20 feet or it swings off path into the woods next to you. This is where you just want to pull your hair out.

#3 It’s very embarrassing at times: There are times where you’re going to tee off and the people behind you are going to be waiting. Not only did this put more pressure on me to succeed, I felt nervous. Again, my swing looked awful and the ball barely went anywhere. I could only imagine what the people behind me thought about it.

#4 Eats away at my wallet: I think one of the first times that I went out to golf, it set me back $65. “Holy smokes!”, I thought. This included my cart and greens fee. This $65 was more of a stress creator more than anything. If it was a little cheaper, I could have enjoyed it more! Those that know me, know that I’m fairly frugal.

#5 I just don’t fit in: I love pulling up to the parking lot and I see the men with their name brand clubs, gloves, and the BMW. Oh, how I love many of these 40k millionaires. Those that tend to act rich really tick me off and honestly, this isn’t the crowd that I want to wine and dine with.

I’m sure some of you can read this and think, “Wow! I agree.”, or you may just laugh and say, you just don’t have the patience to learn the game. Sure, maybe if I took the time to learn the game, I might enjoy it more, but in the mean time, I will continue to hate the sport!
